Chowder Chowdown: A Community Event

March 8, 2019

Bar Harbor Savings and Loan was proud to be the lead sponsor for Island Connections’ third annual Chowder Chowdown at the Neighborhood House in Northeast Harbor.

Staff at the Bank assisted at the event, preparing the tables and ensuring that salad, bread, drinks and dessert were available for nearly 250 guests. “We enjoyed tasting an amazing variety of delicious chowders and spending time with people in our neighborhoods, while helping Island Connections at the same time. We are very pleased with the turnout and the support for Island Connections from the community and through the Bank’s support.” said Vicky Vendrell, one of the Bank’s volunteers.

The winning chowders were:

PROFESSIONAL DIVISION
Traditional recipe: Peekytoe Provisions
Non-Traditional recipe: Birch Bay Retirement Village

AMATEUR DIVISION
Traditional recipe: Lucy Condon
Non-Traditional recipe: Soul Sista's
Vegetarian/Vegan recipe: Chowder of the Atlantic

People’s Choice was awarded to Chuck and Emily Smith, whose chowder was sponsored by the Mount Desert Nursing Association.

Along with the Bank and other local businesses, and participation from members of the community, Island Connections raised money to support its mission to provide transportation for seniors and people with disabilities in the Mount Desert Island area.
