Mary Parker Memorial 5K supports Island Connections

October 15, 2019

Bar Harbor Savings and Loan was the title sponsor for the fourth annual “Running for Rides”, the Mary Parker Memorial 5K Run/Walk, which took place on Saturday October 5. BHSL employees and board members came together to help out on the day of the event. David Cohen, Nancy Sawyer, Jacquie Colburn, Jo Gollapinni, Ardette Spear, Rhonda Sawyer and her dog “Ava”, Ray Chalifour and Kathleen Field helped with registration, manning water stations, and giving directions along the course. Family members Shreya Hosur, Donna Chalifour and Ken Colburn joined in to assist as well. Bill Weir was at the finish line, offering up water and congratulations for all participants.

“Running for Rides” is held each year in honor of Mary Parker, a dedicated Island Connections volunteer and employee whose work was cut short by cancer in 2015. Sixty-five runners/walkers participated in the event.

Money raised will support Island Connections in its mission to provide transportation for seniors and people with disabilities in the Mount Desert Island area. For more information about Island Connections, visit islconnections.org.
