Mary Parker Memorial 5K supports Island Connections

October 17, 2018

Bar Harbor Savings and Loan was the title sponsor for the third annual Mary Parker Memorial 5K, or “Running for Rides,” which took place last weekend. BHSL employees and board members came together to help out on the day of the event. Jacquie Colburn, Nancy Sawyer, Vicky Vendrell, Ardette Spear and her dog “Lady,” Rhonda Sawyer and her dog “Ava,” and Kathleen Field helped with registration, manning water stations, and giving directions along the course. And Bill Weir and Michael Swanson were there at the finish line, offering up water and congratulations for all participants.

“Running for Rides” is held each year in honor of Mary Parker, a dedicated Island Connections volunteer and employee whose work was cut short by cancer in 2015. She is still missed.

Money raised by the event will support Island Connections in its mission to provide transportation for seniors and people with disabilities in the Mount Desert Island area. For more information about Island Connections, visit islconnections.org.
