Bar Harbor Savings and Loan participates in Friends of Acadia Earth Day celebration

May 3, 2019

Staff members from Bar Harbor Savings and Loan braved the elements and participated in the annual Friends of Acadia Earth Day clean-up brigade on Saturday, April 27.

The group was assigned the section of Eagle Lake Road between the National Park Headquarters and Norway Drive. Trekking through the wind and rain, Ray Chalifour, Jacquie Colburn, Nancy Sawyer and Vicky Vendrell filled bags with plastic bottles, aluminum cans and various paper and cardboard products they found roadside and along the rain soaked ditches.

Group organizer Vicky Vendrell said, “Despite the weather, 33% of the Bank’s entire staff volunteered to keep our island roads free of trash.” She added, “We owe a special thank you to Earl and Roxie Brechlin. We happened upon a welcoming sign at their home inviting us and other participants to partake in hot coffee, tea or homemade cocoa and doughnut holes while taking a break and resting in comfortable camp chairs.”
